Mission Organization, 52 Weeks of Decluttering WEEK 1

So, here we are - 1st week into Mission Organization.  And, of course - an upper respiratory infection hits me and all of my children the first week in, but I was determined to declutter something.

I had a few options, but I settled on my cookbook shelf area in my kitchen.  It's a small thing since I keep most of my recipes organized in my recipe binder, but it gets clutter like you wouldn't believe.  On it sits a little basket that everyone my husband just shoves their stuff in - and it just sits there, and gets forgotten.  Plus, the little counter area above it seems to be a collect all.

Even though I don't have many cookbooks, I still have more than I actually read.  If I haven't picked it up in a year, it's pretty certain that I won't pick it up again.  So, away those suckers went.

Wanna know what the strangest (and ickiest) thing I found was?

That's a petrified toddler cereal bar that my 21 month old son must've thrown in that basket at some point.  Who knows how long it's been there.  I thought about recycling it as a roof shingle - but I'm not that cheap.

The best thing I found?

A check.  Yes, it's only for a smidgen over 4 bucks, but I am so cheap that finding $4.00 excites me.  :)

It's all done now.  Looks much better, don't ya think?

I put all my smaller cookbooks into my basket and got rid of all the junk too.

So, are you on track?  How did you do?  If you are a fellow blogger, leave a link back to your progress.  If not, leave me a comment or come join in on the forum over on my facebook page.
