Many of you know that I live in North Carolina, and I absolutely love my state. I’m smack dab in the middle of NC, & both the beach & the mountains are just a few hours away from where I live. I love that! It’s like the best of both worlds at my fingertips.

Asheville is one of my favorite places to get away. I’ve gone a couple times for day trips, but have wanted to go for a whole weekend for some time now. There’s shopping, mountains, the Biltmore, great restaurants, and did I mention shopping?

When there’s lots of shopping involved, what better way to get away than to go on a girls’ weekend? We all know us gals like to shop way more than the guys (most of the time, there are some exceptions!) – and plus, if our men aren’t around, there’s no one nearby that can get on to us about how much money we’re spending. Am I right, girls?!

So, a girls’ weekend in Asheville is what I did. And who better to bring than one of my high school friends that I barely get to see because we live so far apart from each other? My friend Heather lives in Georgia – so it’s a good 5 hour or so drive to where she lives – however, both of us only live 3 hours from Asheville. We’d been wanting to get together for quite a while for a weekend trip, and this was the perfect solution for us.

We left our houses about the same time on a Friday & arrived pretty much about the same time. Our meeting location? My favorite casual food joint in all of Asheville, Biscuit Head. I have eaten there a few times on day trips up to Asheville & it’s so good, and I literally rave to anyone I know about it. So, obviously – that just had to be our first stop (and meeting location!).

Seriously, you can’t go wrong on what you pick to eat at Biscuit Head. Everything is absolutely delicious! And, you have got to get the bacon of the day with whichever biscuit you get. It’s an absolute must. They have a different flavor daily, and so far I’ve had their habanero bacon, banana bacon, & apple cinnamon bacon. Every single one was mouthwatering good.

We ordered 2 different biscuits, and shared them equally between us – because that’s the best way to do it if you ask me! Their biscuits are all ‘cathead biscuits’ which are, you guessed it – as big as a fat cat’s head. We got the Mimosa Fried Chicken Biscuit (mimosa fried chicken, sweet potato butter, sriracha slaw,
and a poached egg) & the Brisket Biscuit (brisket, pickled onion, smoked chèvre, poached eggs,
and buffalo hollandaise) – and of course, a side of the bacon of the day which happened to be the apple cinnamon bacon.  You can check out the full menu on their website.

My oh my…

So flipping good. Just looking at that picture makes me wanna go back right this instant and gorge myself on biscuits & bacon.

A little side note – they have the best & most unique jams, jellies, & butters. I wanted to take a spoonful and gobble them all up (because obviously my thighs & hips really need spoonfuls of flavored butter).

So. Flipping. Good.

Next stop was checking into our bed & breakfast. Neither one of us had ever stayed in a B&B before – but after our experience there, it’s something we both want to do again. They are so relaxing, inviting, & so much better than any hotel I’ve ever stayed at – plus, the food… it’s home cooking. No gross ‘continental hotel breakfast’ here (thank goodness!). I mean, hello – breakfast is in their name so you know it’s gotta be nothing short of delicious. 😉

Asheville has many gorgeous bed & breakfasts – and they are definitely the place to stay when visiting this great city if you ask me. You can view the whole lot of these amazing B&Bs on the Asheville Bed & Breakfast Association’s website – they have areas on their website where you can search by location or search by amenities so you can find exactly what you’re looking for. They also have an area that details different vacation specials they have going on that’s definitely worth checking out (I really wanna go back & do the ABBA’s Fall Farms & Artisans Package!)

We stayed at the Crooked Oat Mountain Inn with the sweetest innkeepers, Bear & Patti. As soon as we pulled in, we were blown away by the beauty. It reminded me of a treehouse in the mountains, & it couldn’t be more perfect. So welcoming & so pretty!

Patti & Bear were there to greet us with a smile – and show us around their beautiful property.

We adored the winding staircase so much! The whole house was breathtaking.

The outside of the Crooked Oat Mountain Inn was just as stunning.

We stayed in the Willow Suite, which couldn’t have been more perfect. It had comfortable king sized sleigh bed with matching armoire, sitting area, full sofa bed, large windows with beautiful views, a private balcony, & a private full bath with a spa tub. Did I mention how perfect it was yet? (You can view all their rooms by clicking here)

When we began unpacking our things in our gorgeous room at the B&B – I ran into a catastrophe… I left my entire bag of makeup at home on my bed! Panic sets in! What am I gonna do without my face, y’all! 😉 So, mission #1 for us – go buy me some dang makeup. Y’all may say ‘Oh honey, I’m sure you look fine without your makeup – you didn’t have to buy any.’.  Um, no. I’ve tried going out to the store without my makeup – which in turn, I always run into someone I know. It usually goes something like this: ‘Hey Crystal. What’s wrong? You look like you’re sick, you’re so pale! Poor thing!’. Me: “Nope, I’m not sick. I just don’t have any makeup on”. Awkward silence.

So, out we went to Asheville Mall to get my favorite foundation from the Estee Lauder counter & some good mascara from the Mac counter – and to CVS for the rest. Now that I’d purchased my face, it was time to do something other than buy makeup.

First stop? The Biltmore Estate. Because honestly – how can you go to Asheville and not tour the Biltmore?

We did the self guided audio tour & it was so cool! We had these audio devices that told us about each room as we entered it. They totally reminded us of the old school brick cell phones though – so we had to take a moment to channel our inner Zack Morris.

The Biltmore Estate was gorgeous inside & out – and it was fabulous to tour. No pictures were allowed to be taken inside, but we got plenty of shots outside the grounds & in the gorgeous Biltmore gardens. You can view pictures of inside the Biltmore Estate on their website by clicking here though.

After touring the Biltmore & the gardens, back to the Crooked Oak Mountain Inn we went to get ready for a night out.

I think the B&B is even more beautiful at night.

That night, we went out for a little dancing & nightlife experience. We got dressed up (which doesn’t happen often in mom life!) & went to downtown Asheville.

This was our ‘let’s be sultry’ faces…. but I think I look more mad than anything haha.

We didn’t go to any one place in particular, just a little here & there – a big ol’ sampling of what Asheville had to offer for nightlife. There’s so many places in downtown Asheville to go dancing too so you pretty much can’t go wrong with whatever you choose. Southern, The Social Lounge, & Scully’s were our top 3 favorites though. We ate a quick bite to eat at Scully’s too, and the food was really good!

And this, my friends, was just day 1!
