Easy Chili Cheese Slow Cooker Hot Dogs – this recipe is so stupid simple but somehow it just tastes so good! You can also make them on the stovetop.

I’m going to share a old standby recipe of mine today.  I’ve used this ‘recipe’ since the start of my marriage 14 years ago – and it’s one that’s never left our house.  We just love it.  It tastes really good, and it’s super easy.  It requires just 4 ingredients, and 2 of them are the hot dogs & the buns.  The other 2 are canned ingredients, and I always keep those on hand for this dish.  Keeping these ingredients on hand in your pantry really helps save time on those busy days, and keeps you out of the drive-thru too – thus saving money.  Saving money is nice…. I don’t like it when my wallet cries.  It blows it’s nose funny.

Like I said – 4 ingredients.  And, here they are:

Now, when I first started making this recipe, I used a can of cheddar cheese soup – but I have started seeing this cool little kit at Wal-Mart from Hormel.  Technically, it’s a chili cheese dip kit….. but when I first saw it, I knew I had to try it out for my chili cheese dogs. The cheddar cheese soup is good…. but the Hormel cheese sauce tastes even better.  I prefer my Hormel chili with no beans…. but if you like your legumes, by all means – bean it up.

The process is simple.  Simply combine the Hormel chili & the cheese sauce together, pour it over your hot dogs (I like beef ones) & cook it on low in your slowcooker for 4-6 hours.  OR – you can bypass the whole slowcooker method all together if you wish and cook it on low/medium with a lid on your pot for 30 minutes.

Pop your dogs in a bun, top with your chili cheese mixture – and if you want any other garnishes, garnish away.  I’m a minced onion girl myself.

That’s it.  They are absolutely delicious – and they are a very good reason to keep a can of Hormel chili & cheese sauce in your pantry at all times.  Easy meal.  Super cheap & thrifty.  Plus, it’s yummy.  Oh yeah.

  1. THANK YOU!!! I have made this 3 times in the last week. My hubby is a picky eater. He was looking over my shoulder as I was reading this in my email. He said “Yes please.” I made it on the stove and used the soup since I did not find the cheese sauce at my grocery stores (Albertsons & Vons). He loves it. Says it is better than the foot long chili cheese dog at Sonic. Keep sharing.
