Easy Swamp Juice
This Easy Swamp Juice is the perfect Halloween drink! You only need 5 ingredients & 5 minutes to make it. Tastes just like white chocolate hot cocoa!Â
Long ago, when I thought about swamps – I thought about alligators, snakes, & mud. Â Now, when I think about swamps – I think about ogres… and Shrek. This is just one of the things in my perspective that’s changed since having kids.
Just like in the past before kids – the term ‘Let it go’ meant letting go of anger, resentment, or something similar. Â Now, ‘Let it Go’ only reminds me of Frozen. Â And, spaghetti makes me think of Lady & the Tramp. Â Oh – and the chocolate drink ‘Yoo-Hoo’ now makes me think of the guy inside the trading store in Frozen – ‘Yoo-hoo! Â Big summer blowout!’.
Yup – kids. Â They change your way of thinking, that’s for sure!
So, when I was making this easy Swamp Juice – I didn’t think of things like alligators & snakes. Â I thought about a Shrek green swamp, and swamp bubbles…. and so on. Â Inevitably, this murky green – and extremely delicious – warm drink is what came from that.
Even though it looks gross, I promise you that it’s absolutely delicious. Â I mean, didn’t your Mama teach you to never judge a book by it’s cover? Â That’s the philosophy we’re going with here.
It’s only 5 ingredients – those ingredients being milk, white chocolate, green & yellow food coloring, & mini marshmallows. Â Nothing gross there, see? The finished product is a delicious white chocolate hot cocoa– with a little swampy green & bubbly effect going on. Â I call this one a winner!
Here’s the ingredient mugshot:
In a medium to large cauldron saucepan, combine 4 cups of milk with 1 cup of white chocolate chips.
Stir the mixture with a whisk while cooking on medium heat (do not bring to a boil!) until all the white chocolate is melted.
Remove your cauldron….errr, pot from the heat, & stir in 12 drops of green food coloring & 8 drops of yellow food coloring.  I use the gel versions because I like the way the colors turn out better, but there’s nothing wrong with using the liquid versions.
Whisk the food coloring in until your mooky-swampy green color has been accomplished.
Pour your swampy hot cocoa into your mugs. Â This is enough for 3-4 mugs worth, and you can adjust the recipe to make less or more. Â It’s very easy to customize!
Top the swamp juice filled mugs with mini marshmallows. Â The mixture should already be a tiny bit ‘bubbly’ – but the mini marshmallows serve as your big bubbles!
