Donut French Toast

Donut French Toast

My children have sleepovers at our house so very often. It’s happens so often that there is rarely a weekend where we don’t have one.  And in the summertime, the sleepovers sometimes last for several days! Some parents would get tired of it, but I love having a house full of giggling kids.

All the kids that come to my house for sleepovers look forward to breakfast.  I have to admit, I make some killer breakfasts when we have kids over! I love experimenting with different things, and I especially love the looks on the kids’ faces when they walk in the kitchen and see what I’ve made.

Last weekend, I bought some reduced glazed donuts from the store – and I decided to do something really fun with them for breakfast.  And turn them into something really fun (and delicious!) I did – presenting Donut French Toast!

Donut French Toast

Some of you may think that they’d be too sweet, but it really isn’t.  It’s actually totally yummylicious.  This breakfast treat has the perfect combination of flavor going on making it a dish you are sure to crave again & again.  I served it with fresh whipped cream & sliced strawberries, and this delectable piece of foodie heaven became even more glorious.  The food angels were definitely singing when this one was served!

The prep is a total no brainer, and just couldn’t get any easier.

Here’s what you need:

Donut French Toast

Mix together your eggs & milk.  It’s not pictured here, but I opted to whisk in a splash of vanilla extract too.

Slice your glazed donuts in half. Reduced donuts in the bakery section of your grocery store works great for this since they can absorb the milk & eggs so wonderfully.

Donut French Toast

Dip the donut halves in the egg/milk mixture.  Allow them to sit for 30 seconds to absorb some of the liquid, & then flip and soak for an additional 30 or so seconds.

Donut French Toast

Cook the halved donuts on a hot griddle or skillet that you’ve buttered.

Donut French Toast

Cook on each side until both sides are golden.

Donut French Toast

You can sprinkle with powdered sugar if you like.

Donut French Toast

Serve with syrup – and add whipped cream & fresh berries if desired.

Obviously, I desire! 😉
