Crockpot Stuffing —perfectly moist and savory stuffing (or dressing if that’s what you prefer to call it!) cooked inside of your slow cooker! It’s really the perfect Thanksgiving side dish! This delicious stuffing recipe is one you’ll want to hang onto and make every time you have a hankering for stuffing.

Crockpot Stuffing
On big days like Thanksgiving, oven space is precious, am I right!?
Using a crockpot for your stuffing means you have more room for cooking your herb roasted turkey, baking sweet potato casserole with praline topping, or cooking a green bean casserole.
So, by using the crock pot to make your dressing, you are eliminating the need for yet another casserole dish in your already-full oven on Thanksgiving day.
This great stuffing is full of flavor from the veggies and fresh herbs. You’ll definitely want to make this every year! I am a big fan of sausage stuffing, so naturally I add sausage to this recipe too. You can leave it of if that’s not your thing though.
While I LOVE a nice, juicy turkey, my favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal is all the delicious sides. This homemade stuffing recipe is a winner, y’all.
You ready to take advantage of your slow cooker? Let’s do it!
Why You’ll Love This Crockpot Stuffing
My easy crockpot stuffing is way better than the boxed stuff! My friends and family agree, it’s the best stuffing!
- Saves Time and Effort: This easy crockpot stuffing recipe is perfect for busy days, especially during the holidays! Simply prepare the ingredients, mix them in a large bowl, and let the slow cooker do the rest. It’s an easy way to make a delicious side dish without spending hours in the kitchen.
- Moist and Flavorful: Cooking stuffing in a crockpot helps it stays moist and absorbs all the flavors of sausage, vegetables, and herbs beautifully.
- Perfect Texture: Achieving the right balance between moist and crispy can be challenging with traditional oven-baked stuffing. My crockpot recipe results in stuffing that’s perfectly moist inside. You can always broil it for a few minutes in the oven before serving for those desirable crispy edges.
- Easy Cleanup: My Slow Cooker Stuffing recipe only requires a large skillet for cooking the sausage and vegetables before transferring everything to the crockpot, so cleanup is minimal!
Ingredients for Crockpot Stuffing
You’ll need to gather some basic ingredients to make slow-cooker stuffing.
- Breakfast Sausage: This is a key ingredient for adding flavor. You can choose any brand or type you prefer, whether it’s pork or turkey. I’ve even used Italian sausage before, but I much prefer the flavors of breakfast sausage.
- Onion: Any type of onion works, but yellow or white onions are commonly used for their mild flavor.
- Celery: Provides a crunchy texture and fresh taste. It’s sautéed along with the onion and sausage to soften slightly before adding to the stuffing.
- White AND Wheat Bread Toasted and Cubed: The combination of white and wheat bread gives a nice balance of flavors and textures. Toasting the bread before cubing it helps to dry it out, making it the perfect base for absorbing the broth and seasonings. You can make your own bread cubes by toasting slices on a baking sheet in the oven until crisp. If you don’t like wheat bread, you can really use kind of bread you prefer.
- Salt, Poultry Seasoning, Rubbed Sage, and Pepper: These seasonings are essential for creating the classic stuffing taste. Poultry seasoning, a blend of herbs like thyme, sage, marjoram, and rosemary, pairs wonderfully with the sage and black pepper to give the dish its signature holiday flavor.
- Chicken Broth: Moistens the stuffing and makes it tender. Using homemade chicken broth can enhance the flavor, but store-bought works well too. Adjust the amount to achieve your desired consistency.
- Eggs: Act as a binder to hold the stuffing together, ensuring it doesn’t fall apart when serving. Be sure to mix them well with the bread mixture.
How to Make Crockpot Stuffing
Here’s the simple steps for making my crock-pot stuffing recipe:
- Prepare the Ingredients: Start by cooking the sausage, then saute onion onion and celery along with it in a large skillet over medium heat. Ensure the sausage is fully cooked.
- Toast the Bread: Meanwhile, toast up a little more than half a loaf of white bread and wheat bread. Dice the bread into 1″ cubes. You should have about 6 cups of both white and wheat bread.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix the dry bread cubes with salt, poultry seasoning, sage, and black pepper.
- Add Sausage Mixture: To the dry bread cubes, add the cooked sausage, onion, and celery.
- Moisten with Broth and Eggs: Whisk together chicken stock and eggs, then pour this over the bread mixture. Gently toss it together and make sure each piece is well-coated.
- Prepare the Crockpot: Spray the inside of your slow cooker with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Cook on Low: Transfer the bread mixture into the slow cooker. Spread it out in a even layer so it cooks perfectly. Cover and set your crockpot on low heat for 3-4 hours.
- Enjoy Your Stuffing: Once done, you’ll have a delicious crockpot stuffing that’s the perfect addition to your Thanksgiving dinner or any holiday meal.
