It’s starting to get colder here and something about that chill in the air makes me want to pull out my crockpot. I know I’m not the only one as many of you have written in asking for some more recipes for your slow cooker. I’ve got a favorite one to share with y’all today – one that I’m actually surprised I haven’t shared yet since it graces our dinner table so often.

This Crockpot Chicken and Gravy has been a family favorite for many, many years and I hope that it becomes a favorite on your dinner table as well.

Shredded chicken and gravy in the crockpot

This recipe is so super simple to make. And the gravy? Well, I’m all about the gravy, y’all… and this is some mighty fine gravy. Top some mashed potatoes with it – or dressing – rice… and make sure you use a biscuit or a roll to sop up any extra gravy on your plate.

Growing up, we always had bread when their was gravy. It wasn’t just a food, it was a dining utensil. I mean, how else are you gonna get all that yummy gravy off your plate? Gotta have you some bread! 😉

I prefer to shred up my chicken and let it sop up that gravy even more, but you can serve it without shredded it too. Totally up to you!

Let’s get started!

There is a video tutorial from Mrs Happy Homemaker making this recipe at the bottom of this post, right above the printable recipe.

What ingredients do I need to make this Crockpot Chicken & Gravy recipe?

Here’s your cast of ingredients!

  • 3 to 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 – 1.25 ounce package of dry onion soup mix
  • 1 – 10.5 ounce can cream of chicken soup, undiluted
  • 1 – 14.5 ounce can of low sodium chicken broth OR about 1-3/4 cups
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/3 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning

I choose not to add salt to this recipe as the soup & soup mix already has a good amount. Taste it when it’s done, and salt your finished dish accordingly if you feel that it needs it.
