Make Room in Your Closet with Soda Can Tabs on the Hangers!

Today I’m going to share something with you that I’ve been doing forever in my own closet – using soda tabs on my hangers to save on space!  It’s one of those things I’ve never really even thought twice about until a friend of mine saw me do it & was amazed by the concept.  The feeling I had at her amazement was about the equivalent of when you go out wearing an old shirt you’ve owned for years, & someone compliments it – and you’re just thinking, ‘What? This old thing?!’

So, upon her encouragement – I decided to go ahead & share it with all of you.  The idea is so simple.  All you need is a soda tab & thin hangers (like wire).  Talk about cheap! 

If you’re anti wire hanger – this will also work for other kinds of hangers, like the ones below.  You just need to look for the kind where the actual part that hangs in your closet is thin. -OR- You can use the tabs off the soup cans, which are larger, if you’d like to use plastic hangers! (thanks for the reader suggestion)

Simply bend your soda tab or soup pull tab up & down on the can until it pops off.  You can even play the ‘marriage game’ while doing so if you want. You remember the one – bend it up & down while reciting the ABC’s, and whichever letter it lands on is the first letter of the name of who you’re going to marry.  If you’re already married, you can just see if the soda tab fairies agree 😉

Loop the soda can tab on one of the wire hangers (or other thin hanger).  Slide it all the way down to the neck of the hanger, and then loop the second hanger through the other side of the tab – like shown below.

When you hang your clothes on it, it works like this….

You can even use another soda can tab on the second hanger – making a third hanger hang from it.  (I’d only suggest this with lighter items, like blouses)

TA-DA!  It’s as simple as that.  Now, go make some more room in your closet… And if you’ve made too much room, you have an excuse to go shopping for new clothes 😉
