BLT Hot Dogs

So you’ve had a BLT before, but have you had a BLT Hot Dog?

If you have not, friends – it’s something that you just have to try!

BLT Hot Dogs

What do I need to make a BLT Hot Dog?

The concept is really the same as making a BLT.

You will need:

  • hot dogs (I like the all beef ones)
  • bacon
  • tomato
  • lettuce – I like using romaine leaf lettuce for this because the shape of it ‘nestles’ the hot dog
  • mayonnaise – I recommend Duke’s
  • black pepper, to taste
  • hot dog buns

BLT Hot Dog

How do you make a BLT Dog?

You can cook the bacon separately and just lie it in the bun, but I like to take the bacon and wrap it around the hot dog – and then slowly cook it in a skillet, rotating often, until the bacon is cooked and crispy. By this time, the hot dog will be perfectly cooked too.

It might sound like a small thing – but it really does make a huge flavor and texture difference when you take the time to wrap the bacon around the hot dog and cook it in a frying pan. I tested air frying it but the hot dog was pretty much burnt by the time that the bacon was done, while cooking it in a skillet produced perfect bacon and a perfect weenie each  and every time.

After you get your bacon wrapped hot dog cooked, it’s time to add the L & T (lettuce and tomato!)

Slather your hot dog bun with mayonnaise (I am a Duke’s girl) . Next add your lettuce. I like to use a leaf lettuce for this such as romaine. It’s shape naturally ‘hugs’ the hot dog and it just fits better. Shredded lettuce also works well.

Next, add your sliced tomato and a little bit of black pepper on the tomato to taste.
