Yesterday, I shared how to make some really cool looking cauldron cupcakes with you guys, and they are super simple to put together. Today I have another easy peasy Halloween cupcake idea for you – Pumpkin Patch Cupcakes!
Aren’t they cute?
You can use your favorite cake recipe to make these, but I kept it super simple with mine & used a chocolate cake mix. A devil’s food cake mix at that… the name is kinda halloween-y after all. A carrot cake, or spice cake – or carrot-pumpkin cake would be great too. I did make a homemade frosting for them though, my personal favorite one at that – Marshmallow Buttercream Frosting. Oh… it’s good. It’s the perfect blend of creamy, sweet, & fluffy – it’s one of those that’s hard to describe but I assure you that it’s really delicious. Everyone who tries it raves! Dixie Crystals sugar sent me a bunch of sugar, so I had plenty to make up a nice large batch of that frosting. It’s so good, I could eat a big bowl of it as a meal. My dentist probably would suggest against that though… 😉 Any guesses as to what the ‘hay’ is on top of the cupcakes?
The hay is chopped up Shredded Wheat cereal sprinkled on top! Then, it’s just dotted with a few candy pumpkins as the finishing touch. I used a little bit of frosting on the underside of them to get them to stick and it worked beautifully. Â I just think these Pumpkin Patch Cupcakes are so adorable, not only perfect for Halloween but also perfect for Fall. I hope that you all enjoy them too!
Pumpkin Patch Cupcakes
Ingredients
- baked cupcakes - use a box caked mix or your favorite recipe
- white frosting I used marshmallow buttercream but any one works - vanilla, buttercream, cream cheese, even store-bought
- unfrosted shredded mini wheats cereal chopped fine to resemble hay
- candy pumpkins
Instructions
- Frost your cupcakes with frosting. Sprinkle with chopped shredded wheat cereal. Top with candy pumpkins. To make the pumpkins stick better, dab a little bit of frosting on their undersides before adding them to the cupcakes.
