It’s so simple to make your own DIY face oil, and all you need is 3 ingredients! My easy face oil recipe is wonderful, and you can customize it based on your own skincare needs.

3 Ingredient Face Oil for Anti-Aging

DIY Face Oil

I have a confession to make.

I’m pretty vain when it comes to my skincare. I work really hard to have good skin and to keep it that way.

I never go tanning, I wear sunscreen daily, never go to bed with makeup on, and moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.

I used to buy into the advertising gimmicks and end up dropping some serious cash on products that didn’t work as well as I’d them to, if at all. Don’t even get me on the labels of some of these products – I have no idea what all those words are, nor could I pronounce them if I tried!

I’ve done a serious amount of research on natural skincare over the past few years and have learned so much about what works and what doesn’t. That research brought me to make my own face oil and what a great decision that has been!

If you’ve seen the face oils out in the market, you know that they can run over $100 for a teeny tiny bottle that won’t last you more than a month.

That’s crazy exepensive!

However, you don’t have to spend all that money to get a fabulous face oil.  All you need are 3 ingredients, and you can switch the ingredients I use out for others that would fit your specific skincare needs.

For me, I like something that targets anti-aging, reduces pores and fine lines, helps hyper pigmentation, and doesn’t clog your pores.

So, for my favorite serum – I use argan oil, rosehip oil, and lavender oil.

I make 4oz at a time, and for those 4oz – it costs me $20. That amount lasts me for 6-8 months, and I use it every morning and every night on a clean face.

In the container I wish to use, I fill it up between 1/2 and 3/4 of the way with argan oil. Then, I pour in the rosehip oil – pouring in enough to almost fill the bottle. Then, I add lavender oil to finish filling the bottle (about 1 heaping teaspoon per 4oz).

Face Oil Recipe

I adore the combination of argan oil, rosehip oil, & lavender oil (fabulous for anti-aging!) – but here’s some other suggestions for you to use to make your very own custom face oil.

Ingredient #1, Base Oil

Choose a base for your DIY face oil. You’ll fill up your container between 1/2 and 3/4 of the way with this base oil.

  • argan oil (great for anti-aging – perfect for all skin types, including acne prone skin)
  • jojoba oil (great for anti-aging – perfect for all skin types, including acne prone skin) (you can use half argan & half jojoba too)
  • sweet almond oil (great oil for all skin types, but takes a lot longer for your skin to absorb)
  • apricot kernel oil (best for normal, dry, & aging skin – not the best for acne prone)
  • grapeseed oil (good for oily, normal or acne-prone skin. Not the best for dry skin)
  • avocado oil (best for dry & aging skin)
  • hemp seed oil (great light oil that’s good for any skin type)

Ingredient #2, Nourishing Oil

Choose a second oil, filling up container to almost full with it.

  • Rosehip Oil (best for regenerating skin cells & is known for it’s firming/anti-aging abilities. Best for dry, normal, & aging skin)
  • tamanu oil (best thing to use for acne prone skin, oily skin, & scarred skin)
  • borage oil (really high in oleic acid, best for oily & acne prone skin)
  • evening primrose oil (good for all skin types – can also be taken internally for acne prone skin)
  • neem oil (fabulous for oily & acne prone skin)

Ingredient #3, Essential Oil

Top off your nearly full bottle with this, you don’t need much. You could even add a combination of oils.

  • lavender (great oil for all skin types – healing & calming)
  • chamomile (great for all skin types, very healing)
  • rose (absolutely incredible for aging skin, but expensive)
  • palmarosa (great for acne-prone skin & aging skin)
  • lemongrass (brightening & toning – best for normal, oily, or acne prone skin)
  • rosemary (best for oily acne-prone skin)

Interesting, and sounds easy enough; but where can I purchase these different oils and know I am getting high quality products??

    1. Thank you for asking this question. I am wondering too where to buy these and/or high quality oils. 🙂

Is it o.k. to just put rose hip oil directly on you face as that is what I have been doing up until now. Any extra advantage mixing with a base oil besides cost.

          1. Yes I put it on my face before I add the EO’s. I just press each one, rose, helichrysum, frankincense, geranium, and rosemary, into the Rosehip oil on my face and it’s so refreshing!

    2. I get all my oils on Amazon, & if you click on the oil names – it will take you straight to the listings on Amazon, which cuts out the guess work! 🙂 Hope this helps!!

  2. Could you tell me where you purchased the bottle to put your face oil in?

  4. I just ordered my oils! So excited! I do have 1 question, though. Is this to be used “in addition” to my typical moisturizer, or does this replace it? I have an oily skin-type (29 years old and still oily). So I, typically, use a very lightweight and acne preventing moisturizer.
    Thank you!

    1. Pumpkin seed and hemp seed are the best for acne or breakout prone skin. Super high in linoleic acid! make sure to use cold pressed. You could mix with jojoba. You can totally use in place of your regular moisturizer or mix a couple drops in when you apply.

U r a darling! U r doing social service actually! All the cosmetic companies wid b gunning for u….

  10. Lemongrass is an irritating essential oil and has a dermal max of 0.7% (roughly 1-2 drops per ounce depending on which calculator you use). The other oils you listed are much more gentle for daily facial use at the recommended 0.5-1%(3-9 drops per ounce depending on which calculator you use). HTH

I just made this…..it’s so super easy and it goes on beautifully! I used an Avo, Rosehip, Lavender combo. It smells divine, I thought it would leave you feeling oily but certainly does not and I’m sure it will last ages as one wee pump surely goes a long way. One word of warning, for the eejits amongst us, me that is 😉 Don’t over fill your bottle as you need to get the pump part in and if there’s not enough room it all blobs over the top and you have to frantically start wiping it off the counter and onto any bit of flesh you can see coz it’s too precious to waste! You can tell I’m new to this ay? 😉 Anyhoo, love it, thanks so much 🙂

  12. Tăut Lăcrimioara says:

Hi, can I use frankincense as an essential oil?

    1. Yes you can. I put 2 drops into my moisturizer in my palm, Mix it with my fingers and apply it to my face.

  13. Hi, thank you sooo much for this xxx. What about my under eye area…, it seems I’m getting dark circles and puffy eyes at times, need help urgently. Though I’m sleeping a lot, but nowadays I seem to have “tired eyes”, which I totally hate.., can it be part of aging or what I’m 52 at the moment. Please help 🙁

I have very dry skin and suddenly have been having breakouts because i couldn’t find a cleanser that would clean without being to harsh and over drying.
I hace been using jojoba oil, argan oil and then a little lavender.
Do you have any recommendatios that would be better ?
