Maple Bacon Pastries

We have this little doughnut shop up the road from my house that sells these amazing donuts with maple glaze & bacon bits on top. They are super delicious, and you better go early in the morning if you hope to get one, because they get gone fast!

Maple Bacon Donuts

Doesn’t it look good?

I made a pastry bar the other day, and included in it was a little pastry I made up to mimic the flavors of my favorite doughnut. The pastry is made from puff pastry, and I filled it with a homemade maple cream cheese filling & topped with freshly fried bacon.  Oh. my. gosh.  It was absolutely delicious!  I didn’t get photos of the start to finish process like I usually do, but I just couldn’t wait to share it with you guys!

If you have any problems with the creating the puff pastry shells, refer to this post for a photo tutorial!

Ingredients

  • 1 package puff pastry
  • 8 oz of cream cheese softened
  • 1 stick of butter softened
  • 3 cups confectioners sugar
  • 6-7 tablespoons of maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 package bacon fried til crisp & crumbled

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
  • Cut the puff pastry sheet into 6 equally sized rectangles. Score the edge of the pastry dough with a knife, leaving a ¼″ rim around the outside. Using a fork, prick holes in the inside of the scored line.
  • Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes. Remove. Using the back of a spoon, press down the center of the pastry. Where you scored it earlier will allow it to sink down while the edges remain risen – creating a pocket.
  • Meanwhile, beat together the cream cheese, butter, confectioners sugar, maple syrup, & vanilla extract until thick & creamy.
  • Fill the pastry shells with the maple cream cheese, & top with crumbled bacon.
