Easy 3 Packet Slow Cooker Pot Roast
3 packets, water, & a roast. That’s all you need to make this delicious slow cooker pot roast!Â
When I was a little kid, there were so many foods that I thought were gross that today in adulthood I absolutely adore the flavor of. The experts say that’s because our taste buds change like every 7 years or something… and I’m sure glad they do because I couldn’t imagine not loving the flavors of some of my adulthood favorites like brussel sprouts, cabbage, sautéed squash (I only liked fried as a kid), pot roast, beef stew, etc.  And, there’s a few that my taste buds never have changed on and they’ve been gross to me ever since the start – like cooked carrots by themselves. I can do them in a pot pie, but pie themselves? Gag me. Same thing with beets. Blech. And bran flakes. Like, I might as well shred up some cardboard & pour milk overtop. No thank you.Â
Pot roast is one of those things I listed that I hated as a kid, but I can’t get enough of these days. There are few things better than a good tender & flavorful pot roast with gravy. I have this one recipe that I’ve been using for many, many years & I’ve actually dubbed it the ‘BEST EVER Pot Roast’… and I still stand behind that statement. However, a friend gave me a recipe recently that I also think is absolutely delicious and it comes in a very, very close second. But then again – that all depends on the flavors you like. My advice? Try them both! Or, if you have one of the recipe’s ingredients on hand but not the other – well, there ya go! 😉
All you need for this recipe is 3 packets, as the name implies – along with some water & a 3 to 4 pound chuck roast.
The packets you need? One ranch, one Italian dressing mix, one brown gravy mix.
Mix all 3 packets in with 1 cup of water, & give it a good whisking with a fork. Pour it over a 3 to 4 pound chuck roast in your slow cooker. You can brown the roast beforehand or don’t – it’s really up to you. I usually sear mine on both sides first but it’s not necessary.
Cook in your crockpot on low for 6 to 8 hours until it’s able to shred easily with a fork.
The gravy, y’all. The gravy is so good I could practically eat it with a spoon.

This looks absolutely delicious! Can anyone tell me if I can add potatoes, carrots and celery to this recipe.
Go right ahead!
This roast is yummy!
This was absolutely DELICIOUS!!! I’ve made a ton of pot roasts and this is now a family favorite!! THANKS!!!
That’s so wonderful to hear, thank you so much for coming back here & sharing that with me! Have a great day, Pam!
I must say that this roast recipe is number one on my list of slow cooker recipes!  To each and own, everyone has different taste buds.  What maybe salty to one, may not be for the other.  The previously reviewer stated that she added chicken broth; then maybe that was the problem, that made it salty to her.  Following the steps listed in the recipe, my roast turn out perfect each and every time.  The criticism my the same reviewer was unnecessary and not kind in referencing the health of anyone’s family!  Crystal thank you and keep doing what you do!  Your recipes are fantastic!!
This was the best tasting pot roast I’ve ever had.
Delicious I will be making it way from now on
Made it loved it!!! Thank you! Can you use top round roast? It’s on sale this week…
