Christmas Tree Crack

This recipe takes me right back to those years when a box of Little Debbie Christmas tree cakes showed up in the pantry.

Once they were there everybody knew they had to move fast before they were gone.

Now, we make this Little Debbie Christmas Tree Crack instead. It’s easy, fun, and made for sharing with a large crowd.

We set it out on the counter, break it into pieces, and watch hands keep reaching back for more.

It’s one of my favorite recipes that brings people together during the holiday season.

Ingredients for Christmas Tree Crack

  • Saltine Crackers: They’re crisp and salty, which balances all the sweetness.
  • Unsalted Butter: Unsalted for the buttery layer of the toffee is best since the crackers are already salty.
  • Light Brown Sugar: The brown sugar melts with the butter to make the classic toffee-style topping.
  • White Chocolate Chips: The white chocolate gets melted and spread on top for a smooth, creamy finish.
  • Coconut Oil: A little coconut oil helps the chocolate melt smoothly and spread easily.
  • Green Sanding Sugar: The green sprinkles give the recipe the fun look of Little Debbie Christmas trees.
  • Red Melting Chocolate: This is used for drizzling on top and gives a bright pop of color.

Make the Toffee: Add the butter and brown sugar to a pan over medium heat. Stir as it melts. Bring it to a rolling boil, then keep stirring and let it boil for 3 full minutes. Don’t walk away. Pour it right over the crackers while it’s hot. Spread it out evenly.

Bake: Place the pan in a 350° oven. Bake for about 5 minutes, or until the toffee starts bubbling. Pull it out and let it sit for a minute.

How to Store Leftovers

If you have any leftovers, let them cool completely first. Store them in an airtight container to keep everything crisp and fresh.

You can leave the container on the counter for a day or two, or place it in the fridge if your kitchen runs warm. Just be sure to keep it sealed tight so it doesn’t get sticky or soft.
