Hot Cheetos Fried Green Tomatoes
So, my kids are totally obsessed with Hot Cheetos. Absolutely obsessed. And…. well, it kinda rubbed off on me because I get pretty snack happy when I have a bag myself.
Well, last week – me & the kids just so happened to be snacking on a bag while I was canning tomatoes from the garden. My garden has really produced a ton of ‘maters this year – I’ve got 20 quarts put up so far. Anyhow, we were munching away when I spied a couple of green tomatoes in the midst of all my ripe ones and I immediately knew that I was about to fry some up with my lunch (with a side of ranch… yummmm). I had coatings of Cheetos dust on my fingers so I went to wash my hands first so I didn’t get it all over my tomatoes.
But….
What if the dust did get on my tomatoes? Like on purpose.
Oh yes. My mind was made up. I was about to coat those green tomatoes in Hot Cheetos dust… and I wasn’t looking back.
I sacrificed half the bag of Cheetos for a little flavor experimentation – and honey, that noble sacrifice was well rewarded. Yes, I said noble.
In case you were wondering (which obviously you are or you wouldn’t have made it this far), this combination is so, so, sooooo good.
Hot Cheetos + Fried Green Tomatoes = Pure Bliss. (even better if you have a little of my Chipotle Ranch to dip it in)
Hot Cheetos Fried Green Tomatoes
Ingredients
- 1 cup Hot Cheetos crushed (I use my food processor)
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 4 green tomatoes sliced
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- In a pie dish (or something similar, pie dishes make great dredging containers) - mix together the eggs & milk. Pour the flour in one dish & the Hot Cheetos crumbs in another. Dreaded the sliced green tomatoes in the flour, then the egg/milk mixture, & then the Cheetos crumbs.
- Fry the tomatoes in a skillet with about a 1/2 inch of hot oil, flipping halfway through, until browned on each side.
- Serve immediately.
