Christmas Tree Brownies
It’s no secret that I love making sweets, especially around Christmas time!
I go all out on holiday dessert tables, adding Christmas Tree Snack Cakes, Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cheesecake, Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cake Dip, and of course these Christmas Tree Browines!
There’s something magical about making Christmas brownies with my kids.
The idea for these festive Christmas tree brownies happened one day when the kids and I were looking for a way to add some Christmas pizzazz to our regular homemade brownies.
We decided to turn them into little Christmas trees! It quickly became one of our favorite fun holiday treats.
These delicious brownies are ooey, gooey, and just the right amount of fudgy, making them the perfect dessert for the holiday season or Christmas party.
The best part? They’re easy to make!
Why You’ll Love Making Christmas Tree Brownies

These brownie Christmas trees have become a tradition in our house, perfect for filling up cookie plates or sharing with friends during winter break.
Ingredients for Christmas Tree Brownies
- Sugar: Granulated sugar melts as it bakes, making these delicious brownies rich with just the right amount of sweetness.
- Unsweetened Cocoa Powder: Cocoa powder gives these homemade brownies their deep, chocolatey flavor.
- Flour: I just use regular, all-purpose flour for these brownies.
- Salt: Just a pinch of salt balances the sweetness.
- Butter: Melted butter adds richness and gives these Christmas brownies their ooey-gooey texture.
- Vanilla Extract: A splash of vanilla extract makes these holiday brownies taste amazing.
- Eggs: Eggs are essential for that fudgy, melt-in-your-mouth feel.
- Red, White, and Green Icing Writers: Use them to decorate the brownies like festive Christmas tree brownies. You’ll pipe on green icing for the tree, then add the red and white for ornaments and decoration.
- M&M Candies: M&Ms are used as Christmas tree ornaments.
How to Make Christmas Tree Brownies
Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F to get it ready for baking.
Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, flour, and salt. Stir it all together until it’s well mixed.
Add the Wet Ingredients: Pour in the melted butter (make sure it’s slightly cooled), vanilla extract, and eggs. Stir everything together until you have a nice, smooth batter.
Prepare the Baking Dish: Grease and flour an 8×8 baking pan.
Bake the Brownies: Pour the brownie batter into the baking pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 30-35 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean. Let them cool completely for the best results.
Slice into Christmas Trees: Once the brownies have cooled, take them out of the pan. Cut the brownies in half, creating two long rectangles. Then, cut each rectangle into triangle shapes to form your brownie Christmas trees.
Decorate Your Trees: Now for the fun part! Use red, white, and green icing writers (or a piping bag with the icing of your choice) to create the look of green frosting on each tree. Add M&M candies for ornaments, and a star sprinkle or other small candy at the top of each tree if you’d like.
Other Decorating Ideas for Christmas Tree Brownies
- Pretzel Stick Trunks: Try using small pretzel sticks as the tree trunks. They’re salty, which pairs wonderfully with the delicious brownies, and they add a fun crunch.
- White Chocolate Drizzle: Melt some white chocolate chips and drizzle it over the trees for a “snowy” look. You can use a piping bag or just a Ziploc bag with the corner of the bag snipped.
- Star Sprinkles: Add a little sparkle by placing a star sprinkle at the top of each tree. You can find star-shaped sprinkles at most craft stores or grocery stores in the baking aisle.
- Mini Marshmallow Snow: For a “snowy” look, add tiny marshmallows around the bottom of the triangle. You can even dust them lightly with powdered sugar to make them look more like snow.
- Green Coconut Flakes: For a textured tree, add green-dyed coconut flakes. Just mix some shredded coconut with a few drops of green food coloring in a small bowl until it’s a nice, bright green. Sprinkle over the green icing to make the trees look fluffy.
- Silver Dragees for Ornaments: Little silver dragees (those tiny edible silver balls) make fancy “ornaments.”
- Candy Snowflakes: Add some candy snowflakes around each tree for a fun wintery touch. These can be found with other Christmas cookies decorations at craft and grocery stores.
- Crushed Candy Canes: Crush some candy canes into small pieces and sprinkle them on the brownies. It adds a touch of peppermint, making them taste even better!
- Edible Glitter: Sprinkle a little edible glitter over the brownies. It’s a perfect way to make these fun holiday treats stand out.
- Powdered Sugar Dusting: For a simple look, dust the brownie trees with powdered sugar to mimic snow.
How to Store Christmas Brownies
These Christmas tree brownies don’t last long in my house, but if you need to store them, just let them cool completely, then place them in an airtight container at room temperature. They’ll stay fresh for 2-3 days this way.
If you need to keep them a bit longer, you can refrigerate them for up to a week, or even freeze individual brownies wrapped in plastic wrap and stored in a Ziploc bag for up to 3 months.
