Chocolate Bundt Cake Ingredients
I keep the ingredients pretty simple for this recipe. Here’s what you’ll need to make it:
Cake Ingredients
- Devil’s Food Cake Mix: Using a cake mix makes it quick and easy, and the chocolate flavor is rich and delicious.
- Instant Chocolate Pudding Mix: The pudding keeps the cake moist and gives it a creamy texture. It’s takes the cake batter from good to amazing!
- Sour Cream: It adds richness and helps the cake stay tender with melt-in-your-mouth moist crumbs.
- Vegetable Oil: Keeps the cake moist and soft.
- Eggs: They make the cake fluffy and give it structure, so it’s not too dense.
- Warm Milk: Warm it up in the microwave for about 45 seconds before adding it.
- Semisweet Chocolate Chips: These melt into the cake as it bakes, creating pockets of gooey chocolate goodness.
For the Glaze
- Semisweet Chocolate Chips: We’ll use the chocolate chips to make the chocolate glaze that drips down the sides so beautifully.
- Butter: Unsalted butter adds a silky texture to the glaze and makes it taste even more decadent.
- Light Corn Syrup: This keeps the glaze smooth and shiny.
- Vanilla Extract: Just a splash of vanilla extract ties all the flavors together and adds a little warmth to the glaze.
How to Make Chocolate Bundt Cake
- Heat the Oven: First things first, heat your oven to 350°F.
- Mix the Batter: Grab a large bowl and combine your cake mix and pudding mixes. Add in the sour cream, vegetable oil, beaten eggs, and warm milk (just pop it in the microwave for about 45 seconds). Stir it all together until smooth. Fold in the semisweet chocolate chips for extra chocolatey goodness.
- Prep the Pan: Grease a 12-cup bundt pan really well. You don’t want any of this delicious cake sticking! Pour the cake batter into your prepared pan, making sure it’s nice and even.
- Bake the Cake: Pop the pan into the oven and bake for 50-55 minutes. To check if it’s done, stick a toothpick in the top of the cake. If it comes out clean or with moist crumbs, you’re good to go. Let the cake cool in the pan for a bit, then carefully turn it out onto a wire rack to finish cooling completely.
How to Make the Chocolate Glaze
- Melt the Chocolate: Using a small saucepan or double boiler, melt the semisweet chocolate chips, butter, and light corn syrup together over medium-high heat. Stir until the mixture is smooth and shiny.
- Add Vanilla: Take it off the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Glaze the Cake: Once your cooled cake is ready, pour or spread the warm glaze over the top of the cake, letting it drip beautifully down the sides. For the best presentation, let the glaze set up a bit before slicing.
Ways to Enjoy Chocolate Bundt Cake
- Serve It Warm with a Scoop of Ice Cream: Heat a small piece of cake in the microwave for about 10 seconds to soften the chocolate ganache glaze. Add a scoop of vanilla or salted caramel ice cream on the side.
- Drizzle on Extra Sauce: Top a slice with warm salted caramel sauce or hot fudge for extra richness.
- Pair It with Coffee: If you’re a coffee drinker, enjoy a slice with some hot coffee and homemade coffee creamer or even a splash of coffee liqueur.
- Add Whipped Topping: A squirt of whipped cream adds a light, fluffy touch to the decadent chocolate bundt cake.
- Turn It Into Layers: Want to get fancy for the next time? Slice the whole cake horizontally into two layers. Add a filling like cream cheese frosting, chocolate mousse, or even a layer of raspberry jam. Stack it back together, and then pour your warm glaze all over it!
- Even More Chocolate: Sprinkle a little unsweetened cocoa powder on top for an pretty finish. Add chocolate shavings or curls to make it look super fancy.
How to Store Cake
To store leftovers of your chocolate bundt cake, let it cool completely, then wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or place it in an airtight container to keep it fresh.
For short-term storage, refrigerate it for up to 5 days.
For longer storage, freeze individual slices wrapped in plastic wrap and stored in a freezer-safe ziplock bag or container for up to 3 months.
Thaw at room temperature or microwave a slice for 10-15 seconds to enjoy it warm and gooey again!

Oh yum!!! Too bad the two guys in my life can’t eat this!! Guess I’ll just have to eat it all by myself!!!
Can you omit the chocolate chips or just use 1 cup?
Yes, you can. It just won’t be as chocolate-y.
I’m wondering if this cake freezes well. I need to bake a bunch of mini Bundt cakes for event and have to make the in advance. Do you know if it’s still moist after freezing?
I’ve never tried freezing it before so I really cant say.
I have an odd question 🙂 could this recipe be swapped? using with white cake mix, vanilla pudding, etc. Like in a 9 x 13 pan? I didn’t know if you had a recipe for a jazzed up white cake lol.
Please let me know when ya have the time.
Thank you in advance,
Erin H.
I’ve honestly never tried it but I dont see why it couldn’t
